Patrick got his start in finance at Fifth Third Bank in his hometown of Cincinnati, contributing to two impactful teams. His first role was as a Specialist in the Private Bank, supporting Wealth Management Advisors (WMAs) in the day-to-day management of their books of business. Collectively, the WMAs he supported oversaw approximately $4 billion in assets under management (AUM).

He then transitioned to the Private Markets and Alternatives Strategy Team. In this role, Patrick was responsible for sourcing, diligencing, and investing Private Bank clients’ capital into private market drawdown vehicles. This experience gave him deep insight into private market firms and a clear understanding of what distinguishes a great general partner (GP).

Driven by a desire to get closer to deal-level investing—particularly in venture capital—Patrick found himself most drawn to VC firms during his diligence work. He shares, “VC firms were always my favorite to diligence and interact with. I have a very entrepreneurial spirit and love that VC firms are investing at the ground level, acting as a resource for founders to help their companies succeed.”

“We’re so excited to welcome someone with Patrick’s professional pedigree to the team. His experience as an LP and time spent across multiple venture firms brings a unique perspective. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, he understands our core value of the pursuit of leadership on a personal level. Plus, we’re always happy to have another Skyline Chili fan in the office!” says Peter Schmidt, Principal.

Now at Refinery Ventures, Patrick joins the team as an Associate. In this role, he supports Tim and Peter in their investment and diligence efforts, while also assisting Abby with the firm’s day-to-day operations. The team is excited to welcome Patrick and looks forward to growing the firm together in Cincinnati.
